Prof. Dr. Mamdouh Moawad Ali Hassan - Professor, Department of Biochemistry - Biotechnology Research Institute

He holds a Bachelor of Science in 1989, a Master of Biochemistry in 1995, and a PhD in Biochemistry in 2000 from the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University. He has progressed through the career ladder at the National Research Center, starting from Research Assistant (from 17/7/1994 to 24/1/1996), then Research Assistant (from 25/1/1996 to 25/12/1999), then Researcher (from 29/2/2000 to 29/4/2005), then Assistant Professor (from 30/4/2005 to 2/5/2010), then Research Professor (from 3/5/2010 to present) in the Department of Biochemistry - Biotechnology Research Institute - National Research Center. He also held several administrative positions at the National Research Center, starting from Secretary and Vice-Chair of the Biochemistry Department (from 2002 to 2010), Secretary of the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Research Division (from 2010 to 2015), Deputy of the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Research Division (from January 31, 2016 to February 10, 2018), Head of the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Research Division (from February 10, 2018 to November 7, 2018), Vice-Chair of the National Research Center for Scientific and Research Affairs (from July 27, 2020 to July 26, 2024). These administrative positions have greatly refined him and helped him to become familiar with all the administrative departments of the National Research Center, as well as to be aware of scientific research policies. This period also allowed him to open up to the outside world and follow up on scientific research systems and developments in different countries through his position as the official responsible for international relations. During his tenure as Vice President of the Center for Scientific and Research Affairs, he made many foreign visits to discuss ways of scientific cooperation with similar international universities, centers and research institutes, and to conclude and sign many agreements. In addition to chairing and being a member of many committees and councils inside and outside the center, he also attended many research leadership preparation courses and other leadership courses, through which he learned about the various governing laws, especially in the field of scientific research. As for scientific achievements, he published more than 175 research papers in international scientific journals, with 3300 citations and a Hirsch coefficient of 35 (according to Scopus evaluation), and 4500 citations and a Hirsch coefficient of 38 (according to Google Scholar evaluation), in addition to authoring 12 international and local books - he also supervised more than 25 master's and doctoral theses - and participated in more than 23 research projects funded by local and international entities and obtained 2 patents. He also received many awards, including the National Center for Encouragement Research Award in the field of chemistry in 2004, the Scientific Excellence Award in the field of basic sciences in 2012, the Excellence Award in Research Outputs, the highest Hirsch coefficient, and the highest impact factor in the years from 2010 to 2015, in addition to receiving many certificates of appreciation and honor from the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as from some associations, bodies, and civil society organizations. He also participated in international and local arbitration of many scientific researches, theses, projects, awards and promotions. He was also a member of many scientific and administrative committees, bodies and associations, which amounted to more than 22 at the international level and about 70 at the local level. In addition to membership in more than 190 editorial and publishing boards of international scientific journals issued by prestigious international publishing houses. He also participated in attending more than 45 international and local training courses and workshops, in addition to attending more than 80 international and local conferences and seminars. He also participated in organizing and teaching in more than 110 training courses for young researchers and technicians, as well as research staff at the center and from outside the center.
