PUBLICATIONS AND SCIENTIFIC IMPACT :
Published more than 40 articles in international and local scientific journals. The theme of majority of these studies is child growth and development, child nutrition, assessment of nutritional status and lately he is also published in the preclinical studies of cancer research.
During his mission as the President of NRC; the largest interdisciplinary research institute in the Middle East, Prof. Shaalan has devoted himself for the promotion of interdisciplinary research cooperation, covering the major areas of industry, health, environment, agriculture, basic sciences and engineering. Having a wide experience in science and technology management, Prof. Shaalan played an active role in preparing Egypt’s science, technology, and innovation policy; and building partnerships among analogous academia, government and industry. At international fora, Prof. Shaalan succeeded to enhance research collaboration with many countries such as Italy, Germany, France, USA, China, India, Russia, and Japan through joint research projects. He supported the collaboration with many international organizations; for example, DAAD, JICA, British Council, CIDA, SIDA, and IDB. Under his leadership, NRC was a co-founder member in ANSO (Alliance of National and International Scientific Organizations), Belt and Road Initiative, China. In his capacity as the founder and director of Center for Climate Change and Sustainable Development Research at NRC, Prof. Shaalan shared as a negotiator party among the Egyptian official delegation, as well as organizer and speaker in many sessions in COP 27 in Sharm El Shaik, COP 28 in Dubai and COP 29 in Baku.
